Wren was finally taking one weekend off from her seamstress job in town. She spent the day away reading and writing, enjoying the silence of her cabin until sun set. She wanted to take a walk, she enjoyed the woods surrounding her home. Often she would find rabbits and deer looking over her, she found it peaceful. As night struck she lit her lantern, following a trail back to her house. That’s when she saw a black feather, so black that it was shimmering slightly blue. She picked it up and examined it, “Odd..” she muttered, looking around and heading off down the stream.
She put her hair up after the feather disintegrated, pushing a rickety boat into the water. She grabbed a large branch to paddle. After a few minutes of intense paddling, she made it to the middle of the lake. “Jesus-“ she rolled her sleeves up and tugged the man onto the boat, checking his pulse aswell. A long breath of relief passed her lips, feeling a slow heartbeat coming from him. She took off her sweater and covered him, trying to warm him and paddled back to land. She pushed the boat onto dirt before helping him onto the dirt, briefly checking his pulse again, it was getting slower.
