The curse had spread from his fingertips to his wrist. That was... unfortunate. Dietrich furrowed his brow as he looked at his useless hand that had been stricken with dark magic. The chaotic black marks cascaded across his flesh like lightning. To his left was a book on curses and dark magic, though it had little in the way of answers when it came to this particular curse.
He wasn't desperate enough to make a pact with a higher (or lower) being yet, but that thought was constantly present. The downside to this whole thing was the loss of his dominant hand. He had been forced to learn how to use his left hand due to the affliction on his right. The young mage felt like he was constantly fumbling through his day-to-day with his left hand.
He had grown tired of it - not to mention the pain - and he was getting closer to his breaking point. In one of the tomes he'd read, he had heard about potentially trapping and harvesting the energy from a magical creature to keep curses at bay. To that end, he had set various traps around the town to draw in and capture such a being. They would detect its magic, bind it, and transport it to a holding cell in his basement.
Cruel, maybe. But he did not want this curse to get to his heart. At that point, cruelty would be the least of the town's worries.
